How to Get a Mortgage as a Temporary Contract Employee

Getting a mortgage can be a difficult process at the best of times and even harder as an employee working short term projects. It doesn't have to be.

If you are an employee who works on a temporary contract basis, we can get you a mortgage.

Stats Canada shows us that these types of positions have been increasing in recent years and more people are finding themselves in this situation.

Typically a contact employee is someone who works in a role where their employment is dictated by an employment contract. Someone like a traveling nurse for example may sign a contract to work in remote areas for a short period of time like one or two years.

Getting a Mortgage as a Travel Nurse

We often work with registered nurses and licensed practical nurses who work in a travel capacity on contract.

Travel nurses on contract in Canada are registered nurses who work temporarily at healthcare facilities in different provinces or territories. They fill in staffing shortages or cover for specific needs, like during peak seasons or emergencies. They provide direct patient care, adhere to healthcare protocols, and collaborate with the existing healthcare team. Their assignments typically last for a few weeks to several months, and they may work in various settings such as hospitals, clinics, or long-term care facilities.

Often the employer may be able to verbally state they will renew the contract but due to budgets, policy, or other rules they cannot guarantee the renewal of the contract in writing. This makes your employment history look less sound that it likely is and make it more difficult for you to obtain a mortgage.

This can be problematic for many major banks if you do not have a two-year history working on contract but we have a solution for you.

As long as you have a two-year history in the industry you work and your contract has been renewed at least once we can get you approved*.
